This is a great food. My new bag of Before Grain 1 arrived today(1/31/11) during my lunch hour. My 2 boxers immediately smelled something in the box they really liked! They hadnt eaten for the day yet, so they were a little hungry, but they both burried their faces into their bowls. I had given them Before Grain 3 with Buffalo that they liked too. So i got them a bag of each. I used to give them Wellness Core(which is a fantastic food as well) but its just a little too pricey. This is about $15 bucks cheaper and just as good. Although i love Amazon, i buy almost everything here, the price is best going directly to petfooddirect.com as it is about the same price except they offer free shippping on this brand currently.

We just recently got a new puppy and as I do with almost everything, I set out to research what to feed him. The breeder was feeding him Iams Puppy which called for about 4-5 cups of dog food a day. Despite the volume of food he seemed very skinny, had bad gas, and was pooping constantly. We're feeding him 3 cups of Merrick Before Grain and he is packing on the pounds! Not only his he gaining a healthy weight, he LOVES the food and has no problem eating every time we feed him. His gas is no longer as pungent as it was and he's pooping about half as much as he was before. There are many good dog foods out there, but Merrick's seems to be the less extreme one as far as price, protein content, and unsafe ingredients. Better foods might exist but you'll pay dearly and the packaging will come with "high protein" warnings. Amazon was cheaper than my local pet store but not by a huge margin.

I've also spent much time researching high quality dog foods. You would be amazed at the horrible ingredients in some of the most popular dog foods. My dogs love this food and tolerate it well (age 1, 10, and 11). Years ago it was thought that older dogs should not eat a high protein dog food, but research shows that is simply not true. Do the research, there are many companies out there selling dogs foods that are just pure junk, and many caring pet owners just do not know. There are several websites out there that test and rate dog foods - just search them, you'll be surprised.
