Update: The same cat that I wrote about below developed urine crystals while I was feeding him a combination of this food along with a little dry wellness core. He ultimately had the PU surgery for FLUTD, but I still had to change his diet. I first tried to just stop the dry food and keep him on this canned food, but he still did not do well. I have since switched all 3 of my cats to Dave's canned food which is a little more that half the cost and I believe it to be of equal quality. All 3 of my cats love the daves food except for the Chicken flavor. For my cat with FLUTD I add a lot of water to the canned food and he is doing very well. To be clear though, my other two cats were doing very well on the Instinct and I was reluctant to take them off of it, but they are also doing very well on Dave's and I save a lot of money going with that food.I got my cat from a rescue organization and where I fell in love with him even though he was noticeably sick. This food is not only healthy for cats, but they love it too!
I started looking for an all life stage food when I got a kitten to befriend my year old cat. Feeding two cats seperately (kitten and cat food) is just not going to work for me. I also had to ween my cat off Science Diet (aka crack cat food). Feed the best you can afford, and the best they will eat...easier said than done. We tried Wellness, Solid Gold, Avoderm, etc. Some they hated totally, and some didn't seem so healthy. I learned alot about cat food. Just read the ingredients! Cats are carnivores, and corn should not be in the top five ingredients...or at all. We have tried several flavors, and They hate Duck (looks gross too!) They will nibble Rabbit and Chicken Lamb they gobble up : ) (P.S. They will eat the Prarie wet foods, but not very much. Also, I feed Innova's EVO dry food.) 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Nature's Variety Instinct Lamb Formula Canned Cat Food (Misc.) I have two 4 month old kittens, that were rescued. I love them dearly, and for more than a month they both had constant diarrhea, I tried everything: Vet food, grocery store food, Wellness,Back to the Wild etc.. I read the reviews for Natures Variety Instinct and my pet store carried it, so I gave it a shot. Not only do they love it, (I get chicken and lamb) after the first feeding no more diarrhea. And now, a week later they are running and jumping around like kittens should, there fur is like silk. It may cost more, but as one reviewer said, I don't have to keep bringing them to the Vet, and I had already brought them twice to the tune of ~500.00. There are 24 cans to a case. Also, they can't tolerate grocery store cat food, I tried Fancy Feast, they loved the taste, but no sooner had they finished, they were running to their litter box, and I had to clean it twice a week, now I can clean it once a week. I highly recommend it. |
